Donde caerse muerto / Where Falling Dead
Buenos Aires. Camilo Morel is an insurance investigator with a wide range of moral criteria, whose main idea in life is to earn a lot of money but at the same time he still has some scruples because of his past as a go-getter from the street university. His job is simple: insurance companies secretly hire Camilo Morel to investigate and look for the evidence of accidents, thefts or deaths of insured persons that for some reason raise doubts about their veracity or about official investigations. When he finds the proof of a fraud or the stolen property, he will receive 20% of the commission. He has a little son, the fruit of a short relationship, that lives in Patagonia. He maintains daily contact with the child, despite not seeing him more often than once or twice a year. Morel is a man of few but faithful friends. With one of them – almost a brother of a lifetime – he shares a hobby: the restoration of old cars. Morel owns 5 cars, the newest is from the year 1972.
Where Falling Dead begins when Camilo Morel takes a fundamental step towards stability: finally buying his first apartment. When signing the deed, Morel meets the previous owner, Martín Di Nucci. He is a man of simple and pleasant appearance, but very well known in the television medium as a producer, screenwriter, film critic and currently director of a group of TV channels. A personal relationship develops between them and the investigator soon learns that Di Nucci’s car, a high-range BMW, was stolen a couple of weeks earlier. Morel manages to have the case assigned to him by the insurance company and begins what he believes should be a simple investigation to find a hard-to-hide car. But things begin to look suspicious when he discovers that this car was used to kill a homeless girl and that the police would be linked to the fact. Although it would be advisable to give up the investigation, Morel’s ambition will cause him to get fully involved, no matter the cost.
